The 4th of July is here! When America’s birthday hits, summer is about halfway over. Since both Parish Giving and John Patrick Publishing are closed the 4th, we decided to share what the holiday means to each of us. We all have different memories, and this is how we celebrate!
History of Vacation Bible School
You may remember one of our previous blog entries about Vacation Bible School, or VBS for short. We discussed why we have it, but many have asked about the history of VBS. Let’s take a stroll down into the past and see what we can find out about the history of Vacation Bible School!
Summer Religious Education
That was a fast school year! All of a sudden it’s graduation ceremonies, parties and school transitions. It is a lot on your family’s plate. Once all of it is over with, you have eight weeks of warm weather in front of you. How are you to occupy your younger ones until the first day of school, or until you have your summer vacation? It’s easy – Summer Religious Education.

It’s that time of the year again! Some look forward to it, while others dread it. A full academic year has come to a close. We are a year older, a year wiser, and ready for the next step in our life. Parent’s, this one is for you – especially if you pay the tuition.
Summer Vacation
It’s already the end of May. Mother’s Day has passed, and so has Memorial Day weekend! By this time, the kids have a countdown to the last day of 
school, and parents are finalizing their vacations and their kid’s summer activities. What’s left to do? Remember your parish during the crazy days of summer.

The Poppy Flower
Flowers are a springtime favorite. They add color to your landscape, and make long car rides more enjoyable when they grow wild along the road. 
Many flowers have a symbolic meaning to them as well: red roses are for love, purple hyacinths are for forgiveness, goldenrods are for encouragement and the red poppy are for remembrance. This is why the poppy is particularly popular this time of the year – to remember those who have fallen during a time of war on Memorial Day.
Torn in Every Direction
You walk into the kitchen. Dirty dishes are piled high in the sink. Someone spilled milk on the floor and didn’t clean it up. The trash is over flowing. The recyclables have not been taken out. And no one has even thought about what’s for dinner tonight. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s that time of year where life is throwing a curveball at you from every direction. We want to help throw one less in your direction.

Carnival Season!
The time has arrived for Church Carnival Season! The days are longer, the sun is warm and inviting, and school is coming to an end with summer vacation upon us. With summer break comes creative ways to entertain the family. This is why a Church Carnival is important for the parish and the area it is in. We already informed you as to why you should send your child(ren) to Religious Education; now we thought we’d let you know how easy it is to sign up!
