Wellness

Congratulations to us! We made it to our 100th blog! We thought a great way to celebrate number 100 was to give our readers a Wellness blog. As you have read from us in the past, we are supporters and advocates for self-love and wellness. Here are some of our tips for a day of wellness, or ways to just un-wind from your hectic day. Enjoy!

Small Changes Make Big Differences

I’m currently training for a hiking summit this summer. Call me crazy, but I thought what better way to motivate myself to be healthier than to book a wellness vacation. Since it’s during the latter half of the year, I can start to make small changes now and notice the difference as I go along. All I have done so far is up my fruit and veg intake and increase the amount of time I spend at the gym. I feel less weighed down and I sleep much better at night. I should have planned this summit years ago!

Walking Meetings

We will be trying this come Spring! I used to do this at my old job and held one-on-ones with my team members. It would help our creative juices flow and it was also less stress on the both of us because we were not in a formal office on opposite sides of the desk. We were equals rather than leader and associate. Plus, fresh air and sunshine are much needed when there are no windows in your office!

Massage

If you work, are a commuter, someone who lifts weights, or just has a lot on their mind, there is nothing better than a nice massage to help rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. I’ve recently discovered cupping and am addicted to it. It helps relieve tension in my neck, shoulders and back that I carry. If you do not want to go that extreme, try a nice hot stone massage or Swedish. The stroking motion helps you to relax (I’ve even been guilty of falling asleep during one). An aromatherapy massage also helps to relieve tension with certain oils. Lavender is one of my favorites for relaxing and unwinding.

Meditation

This is not my strong point as I am someone who must keep moving. Meditation forces you to be in one place and in one moment. It takes practice, but those who do it swear by it. There are different means of meditation such as tai chi, audio recordings and even prayer. If you’d like to reach a deeper prayer, try doing the rosary. Many say when they meditate or pray to it, they can hear the voice of God.

Join an Extra-Curricular

We played sports and participated in clubs while in school – why not continue as an adult? Being around other people besides your family and colleagues helps you to expand your social circle and make new friends. We always complain as we age that it’s more difficult to make friends and that we feel as though we’re in a rut. Well here is a great solution! I’ve been looking at my local community college’s non-credit courses and am signing up for a Fiction Writing course. I’ll be able to practice a different form of writing and meet new people. It’s a win-win. Find a course or an adult sports league that you may be interested in.

As you can see there are numerous solutions to your wellness drought. All you need to do is find something that makes you happy and relaxed. I know – easier said than done. When in doubt, try one of the solutions above, or combine some of them like I do.

Hope you enjoyed number 100!
