On the eve of Catholic School Week 2018, it is important for us to know why we have one. Each year, the last Sunday in January commences Catholic School Week. For those who received a Catholic school education know that it is about more than just uniforms and religious education classes; it’s about the Mind, Heart and Spirit.
- Mind
As everyone knows, an education helps to form your mind. You first start to learn your ABC’s and your 123’s. From there you learn how to create words with the letters, and how to add and subtract your numbers. This can be taught in any school system. The great thing about a Catholic education is how it helps to develop your mind.
Your mind is vital. It helps you grow and helps shape who you become. Without the proper mindset, you may not be able to achieve your goals and desires. Given the right education, your mind will flourish and help define the type of person you become. With intimate classroom sizes, small student teacher ratios and plenty of one-on-one attention, a student’s mind will grow beyond your expectations.
- Heart
What is heart? In Catholic school, heart is a feeling. It’s a feeling of belonging, and teaching others to accept one another through faith; something that many believe is not taught in other schools. Children are taught at a young age to love one another despite their differences and opinions; it is all about acceptance. This is why heart is the core of a Catholic school education and our community.
- Spirit
Excellence is always supported and expected at a Catholic school. Students are encouraged to do their best, and to continuously challenge themselves. You are taught to always strive for more. Be the person you want to be, not the person people expect you to be.
Mind, Heart and Spirit individually make Catholic schools appealing, but putting them together creates a powerhouse education. Adolescents become more mindful young adults, in which turn into extraordinary adults.
Catholic schools provide more than just an education – they provide a way of life. Acceptance, love and tolerance are at the core of the education. This is why we celebrate Catholic School Week each year.
