Fish Taco
As I mentioned in our previous blog, Cape May is the dining capital of New Jersey. A restaurant for everybody. Well, my watering hole when down there is the Mad Batter. Great live music every evening, extensive menu with food choices for everyone, and it’s just a great place to sit at the bar and meet new people. You never know where the conversation may lead.
Also, if you decide to stay the night in Cape May, I recommend staying at the Carroll Villa as you receive a dining credit for both breakfast or lunch and a nice percentage off each dinner entrée at the Mad Batter. This way you can enjoy all of what their menu has to offer!
The Sandwich
As all good restaurants do, the Mad Batter has changed up their menu in recent years. Their fish taco was a staple on it, but now it is a weekly special. They give you one very stuffed taco (I had to eat it with a knife and fork) with grilled fish, pico de gallo, avocado, cheese along with other deliciousness. It’s served with a side of their fresh cut sweet potato fries. Pair it with their house-made Bloody Mary and you are in for a treat.
The Taste
Fresh and flavorful. Obviously when you are down the shore the seafood is unbelievably fresh, but so is the avocado, tomatoes, onion, and other ingredients that you wouldn’t expect to be fresh this time of the year. My friend and I joke that it is black market produce because how else can a March tomato taste just like a Jersey fresh summer tomato?
Would I go back for another this year?
If their fish taco is on the menu next time I go back, I certainly will grab another. If it’s not there are plenty of other fish choices like the Blackened Fish Sandwich, Crab Cake Sandwich, Fish and Chips, etc. I’m sure I’ll be back in another couple of weeks so stay tuned to see if I have another meal there.
Final Rating: 5/5
I’m sure this comes as no surprise to any of you. The Mad Batter is fresh, guilt-free comfort food. If you try them once, I can guarantee you will return.
